Huge congratulations to Dr. Khawar SARFRAZ, Lecturer I in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, on receiving the Thetos Early Career Distinguished Teaching Award 2025-26. This marks his second consecutive year of recognition, following an Honorable Mention last year.

Bridging Industry and Academia

An HKUST alumnus (PhD '16), Dr. Sarfraz rejoined the university in 2022. He integrates 13 years of industry experience in hardware design and project management with academic rigor, creating a unique learning environment. Students consistently praise his ability to translate complex electronic system designs into engaging, real-world case studies that foster creative thinking.

About the Award

Established by the Thetos Foundation Hong Kong, the Thetos Distinguished Teaching Award (TDTA) is the first at HKUST specifically dedicated to recognizing teaching-track faculty. Dr. Sarfraz is one of only three university-wide winners this year, alongside Dr. Jac Leung and Prof. Winnie Leung from the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Winners are selected based on their teaching philosophy, contributions to student learning, and the proven impact of their pedagogy.
