Prof. Zhiyao XIE, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), was honored with the 2026 ACM SIGDA Outstanding New Faculty Award. Presented at the Design Automation Conference (DAC) 2026 in Long Beach, California (July 26–29), the accolade makes him the first researcher from a Hong Kong higher education institution to secure the prestigious award since its inception in 2000.

Bestowed annually upon a single junior faculty member globally, the award highlights exceptional promise in education and research within electronic design automation. It is strictly open to tenure-track academics who have served between one and four-and-a-half academic years.

Prof. XIE specializes in AI-driven electronic design automation and advanced chip design methodologies. He earned his PhD in Computer Engineering from Duke University in 2022 and joined HKUST that same year.
