Prof. Tim Kwang Ting CHENG and Prof. Khaled BEN LETAIEF were Elected 2020 Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES)

Prof. Tim Kwang Ting CHENG and Prof. Khaled BEN LETAIEF were elected 2020 Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES).

HKAES is an organization of Hong Kong’s most eminent engineers of various disciplines who are recognized leaders of the profession with distinguished achievements in engineering sciences or applications. The fellowship is characterized by dedication to serving Hong Kong, the Mainland China and the region with top-quality engineering expertise. 

Prof. CHENG is a Chair Professor jointly in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.  An internationally leading researcher with excellent experience in fostering cross-disciplinary research collaboration, Prof. CHENG is a world authority in the field of VLSI testing and design verification, as well as an impactful contributor across a wide range of research areas including design automation of electronic and photonic systems, mobile computer vision, and learning-based multimedia computing.  He has published more than 400 technical papers, co-authored five books, held 12 US patents, and transferred several of his inventions into successful commercial products.

Prof. CHENG is a Fellow of IEEE and his works are of high impact with due recognition from the field, including , including most recently Taiwan’s Pan Wen Yuan Foundation Award for Outstanding Research in 2020.

Prof. BEN LETAIEF is New Bright Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering.  He has contributed to the advances of wireless technologies, including several major developments in OFDM, MIMO, and cooperative cooperation along with multiuser resource allocation, which are considered as the core technologies for 4G cellular systems and other advanced wireless networks.  He has published over 600 journal and conference papers and given invited keynote talks as well as courses all over the world.  He has 15 patents, including 11 US inventions, and made 6 technical contributions to IEEE standards.

Prof. BEN LETAIEF is the recipient of prestigious awards including IEEE Marconi Prize Award in Wireless Communications; IEEE Harold Sobol Award; Purdue University Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer Award; IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award, Best Tunisian Researcher or Inventor Abroad (2020); over 15 IEEE Best Paper Awards, and 6 Teaching Awards.
