Prof. Mansun CHAN and Prof. Michael WANG are conferred Chair Professorships
Prof Mansun CHAN and Prof Michael Yu WANG have been conferred Chair Professorships in recognition of their distinguished achievements and contributions.
The university confers the chair professor title to faculty members at the rank of Professor who are acknowledged internationally as leaders in their fields of research activity and have demonstrated significant leadership in raising the standards of the University with respect to teaching, research and service.
The two appointed chair professors are:
Prof Mansun CHAN
Prof Chan joined the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering in 1996. He has a strong interest in device modeling and circuit simulation. Heavily involved in organizing IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS)’s Electronic Camp and other circuit-related contests for children and adolescents in Hong Kong, China and the US, Prof Chan has recently received the 2017 IEEE EDS Education Award for pioneering innovative approaches in electronic engineering education and becomes the youngest recipient at the time the award was given.
Prof Michael Yu WANG
Prof Wang’s research focuses primarily on robotics, autonomous systems, manufacturing automation, topology optimization, and additive manufacturing, with over 300 technical publications in these areas. His research projects were supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Boeing, Chrysler, ALCOA, Maryland Industrial Partnerships in USA, by RGC and ITC and local industries in Hong Kong, by NSFC and MOST in China, and by Singapore A*STAR, MOE, and Defense Ministry. He has supervised 22 PhD, 11 MS and 2 MPhil degree students.
With the two newly appointed chair professors, there are currently nine chair professors at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering.
