A Research Paper Co-authored by Prof. Daniel PALOMAR and PhD Alumna Ying SUN has been Selected for the 2020 IEEE SPS Young Author Best Paper Award

The research paper "Majorization-Minimization Algorithms in Signal Processing, Communications, and Machine Learning" co-authored by Prof. Daniel PALOMAR and his PhD alumna Ying SUN has been selected for the 2020 IEEE SPS Young Author Best Paper Award.

The award will be presented at the Awards Ceremony at ICASSP 2021 in Toronto, Canada by the 2020-21 SPS President, Ahmed Tewfik

Prof. PALOMAR received PhD degree from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2003, and was a Fulbright at Princeton University.  He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at HKUST, which he joined in 2006.  His research interests include applications of convex optimization theory and signal processing to financial systems and big data analytics.  Prof. PALOMAR is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of the Institute for Advance Study (IAS) at HKUST. 

Ying SUN received Bachelor degree in electronic information from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2011, and PhD degree from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, in 2016.  She was appointed as postdoctoral researcher at the School of Industrial Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA.  She will be joining Penn State University as a faculty starting January 2021.  Her research interests include nonlinear optimization algorithms, machine learning, and statistical signal processing.
