PhD Student Sheng NI and Yang BU Received Outstanding Paper Award in the IEEE MEMS 2022

PhD student, Sheng NI, along with co-author Yang BU, supervised by Prof. Levent YOBAS won the “Outstanding Student Paper Award” for an oral presentation in the 35th IEEE International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (IEEE MEMS 2022) held during 9-13 January in Tokyo in Hybrid mode. The conference is considered to be the premiere international venue for the MEMS community and Sheng’s paper is one of the three winners in oral presentation category selected by a technical committee from about 600 submissions.

The paper presents a MEMS chip for the thermal analysis of miniscule amounts of liquid samples based on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). DSC is a powerful analytical technique utilized in many fields to evaluate thermal properties of materials but typically performed in a bulky laboratory equipment requiring large amounts of samples and with limited scanning rates. Further information about the work can be found in a 3-min video:
