ECE PhD student Yichen LIU, supervised by Prof. Kevin Jing CHEN, won the best Student Paper Award (the 2nd Place) in the Student Paper Competition of the RF Technology & Techniques (RFTT) Symposium at the 2026 IEEE International MTT Symposia (IMS2026), 7~12 June, Boston, USA. His oral presentation is entitled “GaN Non-Volatile RF Switch Based on Bipolar Charge Trapping for Reconfigurable RF FEMs.”

The IEEE International MTT Symposia (IMS) is a premier international event for RF and microwave technologies, gathering leading researchers, engineers, and industry professionals from around the world. As one of the major technical symposia under IMS2026, the IEEE RFTT Symposium focuses on RF components, devices, circuits, packaging, computer-aided design, and emerging RF hardware technologies.

The group’s work, jointly completed by Yichen LIU and postdoctoral fellow Yuanke ZHANG, demonstrates a GaN-based non-volatile RF switch that can be programmed to ON/OFF states through bipolar charge trapping and maintain its states without external bias. The proposed device technology offers a promising pathway for high-power reconfigurable RF front-end modules in intelligent wireless systems.
