Final Year Project Won the Silver Prize of HKEIA Innovation & Technology Project Competition Award 2018
One of the ECE final year projects named “Home - Based Device That Performs a Urine Test at Lab Level of Accuracy” by PRANATA Christian Edwin, RYAN Budi, WICAKSANA Jeffry*, supervised by Prof. Tim Kwang Ting CHENG, has won the Silver Prize of HKEIA Innovation & Technology Project Competition Award 2018. The team will receive a cash prize in the amount of HK$20,000 with a certificate of merit.
The award will be presented to the team at the award presentation ceremony in the HKEIA Annual Dinner on 15 October 2018 at Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The same project has previously won the President’s Cup as well as Silver Award of ECE Best FYP Demo 2018.
Project Summary
Home - Based Device That Performs a Urine Test at Lab Level of Accuracy (CT1-17)
Collecting and tracking health data have been used prevalently as preventive methods to fight chronic diseases. Along with recent technological developments in the fields of consumer electronic devices as well as machine learning, these methods have also been evolving and are becoming available for commercial uses. However, people without medical backgrounds can find it difficult to collect and analyse these data by themselves. Thus, some important and reliable biometrics, such as urine, are under-utilised in many commercial self-analysis. Therefore, this research aims to simplify and automate real-time urine data collection and analysis, at the comfort of patients’ homes. Research result has shown that it is indeed possible to create an easily installable system at patients’ toilets, which seamlessly integrate into an app that tracks users’ urine biomarkers and hydration level, as well as provides health recommendations.
