Dr. Isabel Guan moved to the United States during her teenage years, and later continued her academic and professional career in the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Mainland China.  Before joining HKUST, Dr. Guan was a postdoctoral research engineer at the Robotics Research Centre, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She received her Doctor degree in Electronic Information from Peking University and her M.S. from Northwestern University, USA.

Dr. Guan’s research interests primarily include robotics embodied intelligence, reinforcement learning, and the integration of advanced AI models in decision-making processes. She focuses on developing algorithms that enhance the interaction between humans and robots, particularly in complex, dynamic environments.
