BEng in Microelectronics and Integrated Circuits (Research Option)

Why Research Option?

The Research Option is designed for students interested in experiencing research at the undergraduate level. This option provides enhanced analytical and intellectual training through advanced courses. Students will also gain research experience through working on exciting projects under the supervision of our ECE professors in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) and Final Year Thesis (FYT). This option offers excellent training and preparation for students to pursue MPhil or PhD degrees or careers in research and development after graduation.

 

In addition to fulfilling the ELEC Major Requirements, students in the ELEC Research Option are required to complete:

  • Final Year Thesis (FYT)
  • 1-credit Postgraduate (PG) course: ELEC 5900 Modern Engineering Research Methodologies
  • 6 credits of Advanced Elective Courses approved by advisor (at least one Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) course taken prior to the commencement of FYT, and one PG-level course)

Final Year Thesis

All students in the ELEC Research Option are required to complete a Final Year Thesis (FYT). It is an excellent opportunity for them to synthesize the theory and experimental work they learned during the Program in order to complete the project.
