Hang Zhao received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, and the Ph.D. degree from City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, all in electrical engineering in 2015, 2017, and 2021, respectively. Before joining HKUST, He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at The University of Hong Kong.

His research focuses on energy conversion, control, and robotic systems with emphases on 1) design, modeling, and optimization of motor topologies; 2) power electronics and control strategy for motor drives; 3) application of motor drives in robots and electrified transportation.
