ECE Student teamed up with MBA students to vie for more than US$1M in prizes at Rice Business Plan Competition

A year-4 ECE undergraduate student Shrey Singh teamed up with 3 MBA students (all from HKUST) to form a team whose proposed business plan had made it to the 42 finalists from over 700 applicants in the Rice Business Plan competition.

The 42 finalists were chosen from nearly 400 entrants to compete in four categories: life sciences; information technology/Web/mobile; energy/clean technology/sustainability; and others.

HKUST’s team uses patented technology from Prof David Lam of HKUST in a business plan which aims to revolutionise the diagnosis of glaucoma, the second leading cause of preventable blindness in the world.

The team will compete with some of the world's top universities for more than US$1 million in prizes at the 17th annual Rice Business Plan Competition at Rice University, April 6-8, 2017.

The winner will take home a grand prize valued at more than US$450,000, including seed funding and the opportunity to ring the closing bell at NASDAQ Marketsite.
