Dr. Jianan Qu received BS and MS degrees in optical engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1983 and 1986, respectively. He received PhD degree in optics from Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990. After that he worked one year with Department of Physics in University of California at Irvine and two more years with British Columbia Cancer Research Centre as a postdoctoral fellow. Before joining with HKUST in 1997, he was a staff scientist with Ontario Laser and Lightwave Research Centre and Ontario Cancer Institute. Dr. Qu is currently a full professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, HKUST. 
 
Dr. Qu is an elected fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and an elected fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He is serving as topical editor and editorial board member for Optics Letters and Journal of Biomedical Optics.
